How to Keep the Clutter Off of Your New Kitchen Countertops

Albert Garcia • Sep 05, 2017

Once you’ve had your new kitchen countertops put in by our Georgia team, you’ll be eager to show them off. If you are like most households, though, your kitchen counters are one of the most highly utilized surfaces of your home. They are a place to drop the mail, make a cup of coffee, prepare an evening meal, and store all those kitchen gadgets that you don’t know where else to stash. All that clutter can really take away from the beauty of your countertops, but Royal Granite Countertops can help! We have some helpful suggestions so you can cut the clutter and show off all that gorgeous granite.

Cut the Clutter of Your Kitchen

Utilize the space under your cabinets.

There is a lot of space you aren’t using right there under your wall cabinets. Put it to work! By hanging cup books or even baskets underneath your wall cabinets, you can get items off of the countertop and safely stored away. Try it for your coffee mugs, spices, and even cooking utensils. All that stuff you leave out for easy access (or because there is nowhere else for it to go) can be tidied away into baskets and other storage under your cabinets.

Do some rearranging in your cupboards.

Are you really utilizing all of the space inside of your cupboards and cabinets? Most people aren’t. Be creative and look for ways to use the space more efficiently. Instead of using an entire shelf for short jars of spices, add another shelf and double your storage capacity. Or, instead of storing your plates flat and missing out on the vertical storage space, get a plate rack that sits inside the cabinet and set the plates upright. There are a number of inexpensive products on the market that can help you create better storage solutions.

Go high.

Make sure you are using all of the space available in your kitchen, including above your cabinets. If you are lucky enough to have storage space above your cupboards, put it to work. Store anything that you don’t use on a regular basis (mixers, holiday items, special bottles of alcohol) on these upper shelves. You can keep that space looking tidy by using baskets to store the items or even hanging a curtain there.

Make a drop-off station.

Paperwork is one something all homeowners have to battle in their kitchen. School work, paperwork, and mail all seem to accumulate on the countertops. Keep the paper to a minimum by setting up a drop-off station. This is a place for each family member to unload their items at the end of the day and keep them off of the counters. Make sure there is a place for mail, keys, and other assorted items like lunch sacks and jackets.

Be ruthless.

It’s probably more convenient to have a lot of these items out on your counter, so it’s up to you whether or not the tidiness is worth it. For most homeowners, the answer is an enthusiastic yes! They love having clutter-free kitchen countertops that they are proud to show off to friends and family. In order to achieve this, though, you have to be ruthless! Once you’ve set up a system, enforce it with both yourself and your housemates. Pretty soon, cleaning off the clutter will be second nature to everyone!]
